Ethiopian Wins “The Cargo Airline of The Year” and “Best Cargo Airline – Africa.” at the 2022 Air Cargo News Awards
September 16, 2022, marked a grand achievement for Ethiopia. At the Air Cargo News Awards 2022, Ethiopian Cargo and Logistics Services, the internationally recognized cargo player during the pandemic for efficiently transporting vital medical supplies and vaccines to all corners of the globe and the largest air cargo network operator in Africa, won the titles of “Cargo Airline of the Year” and “Best Cargo Arline-Africa.”
Online voting was open to all international cargo participants, including freight forwarders, ground handlers, and general and cargo sales agents.

Ethiopian converted its passenger aircraft to freighters to boost its cargo operations and shipped approximately 1 billion doses of the COVID-19 vaccine around the world during the outbreak of the pandemic. Ethiopian Cargo and Logistics Services, one of the major strategic business units within the Ethiopian Airlines Group, has demonstrated remarkable performance.
Ethiopian Cargo and Logistics Services currently offers 67 specific freighter services covering more than 130 international destinations around the globe.
Ethiopian Airlines Announced as Partner for Nigeria Air
In an assembly Held in Abuja on September 23, Ethiopian Carriers (ET) Consortium has been chosen as the favoured bidder for Nigeria Air.
According to the press release, Ethiopian will possess a 49% stake within the modern aircraft, Nigerian government would control the 5% equity whereas a consortium of three Nigerian financial specialists, MRS, SAHCO, and other regulation financial specialists, will have the remaining 46 %.
“Nigeria Air, a limited liability company that will have no government intervention, would have an initial capital of $300 million and plans to have 30 aircraft within four years” said the Nigerian Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika. The carrier launch with service between the capital Abuja and Lagos, the commercial capital, and include other courses afterward.
Nigeria Air working along the largest carrier in Africa is anticipated to supplant Nigeria’s previous aircraft, Nigerian Airways, which ceased to function in 2003.
